Now is the time to get the christmas decorations out. We have two crib-sets, but this year I have cheated and put everything out all at once, instead of leaving the kings until the epiphany. One set has been ‘staged’ with building bricks, and the other has a customised shoe box stable, and a great crowd of ‘extras’ in the form of farm animals, Noah’s Ark animals, doll’s house people, etc., etc. The lights have gone up, and I even found a replacement bulb, so only one bulb isn’t working (instead of a third of them). The tree is decorated. The cards are all delivered. The cards we got are all put up. The trifle for tomorrow’s pudding is made. And you never saw Sam so desperate to go to sleep, so we even got to listen to half of I’m Sorry I haven’t a clue. Now all we have to do is hoover the floor, fill the stockings, and erect a tricycle!
Songs: When Santa got stuck up the chimney, Little Donkey, little donkey, I’m dreaming of a white christmas, All I want for Christmas are my two front teeth. I want a hippopotamus for Christmas (it was on Take a Bow), etc.
No. In our opinion the children are too young. We would actually want to arrive at 11 pm for midnight mass, so we could get a good seat, because the gig starts at 11:30 with carols, and they don’t go to bed enough late enough yet for there to be enough time for them to go to bed any earlier than they already do for a nap; (does that make sense). And Hannah does not appreciate being woken up if she’s fast enough asleep. John reckons he was about 11 before he went to midnight mass, and we’re happy to keep it that way.
John erected the trike, by the way.
That does make sense. It’s just that although there have been years (mostly as a child) when I was too ill to go to Midnight Mass, I’ve never deliberately not gone (except in my pagan year), and particularly with Benedict would deliberately go. So, it hadn’t occurred to me that you might do otherwise. Sorry!
And it would have been different if Hannah had not dropped her afternoon nap (she goes to bed at a reasonable hour instead). We actually ended up going to mass at 11:30 am, and I enjoyed that anyway.
