Whoops, nearly forgot. All those jingoists had better notice that St George was a Palestinian Martyr. Or at least, he came from round about that part of the world. So that makes him an immigrant.
Decorations: the flag
Flowers: red roses
Food: anything ‘English’, such as a Victoria sponge cake, and roast beef. Or something purporting to be more ‘Georgian’; so that’s kebabs and halva and my Middle Eastern geography is really vague. Can I have Turkish delight? Definitely a cake day, though. And English beer, ale, cider, anything like that.
No room for: dragons, breathingfire.
Hooray for: Eclecticness
Music: Jerusalem? Hymns to St George (are there any? Our church hymn book has the other National Saints, but not St George!)? Flanders and Swann, ‘The English are Best’
