Made with real lamb, and incorporating lots of hidden veg.  I served it with baked beans.  Hannah wouldn’t touch it, Sam only ate the mash off the top.  I really should have used the food processor to chop the veg up small.  But the thing about mash is they always used to recommend a little hot milk mashed in, and it always used to be too much faff, until I tried putting a little in an espresso cup in the microwave.  Delia was wrong when she said the microwaves takes the soul out of cooking: by taking some of the hard drudgery out, they can put the soul (and fun) back into cooking.

Anyway, shepherds’ pie made with lamb does indeed taste completely different from cottage pie made with beef, and is very nice, and worth making for the kind of grotty weather you often get in November in England.
