Real, as in real custard, made with egg yolks. I’d never made real custard before, but it is almost as easy as custard powder custard. We let the custard go cold and ate it with meringues, which I made to use up the spare egg whites, and which I had also never made before, and strawberries.

This was a bad move, because the custard took on a strange texture when cold (although this could have been due to my incompetence) but it was a good move, because the meringues were delicious.
