inUsing Cannon Hall Farm stewing steak, a bit of ox kidney (soaked in milk) and pre-rolled puff pastry. Also, using proper beef stock (knorr, in a pouch). Thing about prerolled pastry is you expect to be able to use it straight away, but it still needs flouring liberally. Anyway, this dish takes some organisation, as the filling is stewed for a couple of hours, but after that it is fantastic. John said this was the best steak and kidney pie he’d ever had; I was not really satisfied with the pie making part, but it was absolutely fantastically delicious.

If he wasn’t so well known as a national saint in so many countries, he probably would have been excanonised as a probable myth. I think. I know his feast was demoted, because of the dubiousness of his history. However, I’m not going to start complaining now.
Flowers: red roses, English roses (those pink wild ones, I think), etc.
Flag: of course
Hooray for: fairytale princesses, knights in shining armour, myths and fairy tales
No room for: dragons, pedantic truth-tellers.
Food: anything English, or better still, since he comes from Turkey somewhere, anything Turkish. Mmmm: Turkish Delight….

inbut without the chillis. Made using Cannon Hall Farm’s delicious excellent minced lamb. I took more trouble over these than any burgers I’ve made before, but it was definitely worth the effort. The best burgers I ever made, or we ever tasted. Served with sparrow grass, salad (which John liked; he obviously hadn’t eaten decent salad before he met me) and pitta bread. The children wouldn’t eat them, but we didn’t care.

I know it’s only Spring, but I’ve never called it anything else. And it is a lovely sunny day today. The children are off to their respective places of learning in shorts and short sleeves with sunhats and bottles of suncream. And I’ve paid Hannah’s playschool fees for the last time. Yippee!

Or Sunday in the Octave of Easter; Easter is one day spread over eight, as it were, a continuous celebration (and even more so in the Orthodox rites). The newly baptised would originally wear white all the octave (the one garment the put on at baptism, so maybe not so white anymore).
Also called St Thomas Sunday, because of the gospel, and Quasimodo Sunday, which you can look up on Wikipedia; it’s a pun.
Colours: White
Music: Alleluial, Ye sons and daughters of the Lord (which I have never heard sung).
Flowers: yes, white, daffs, etc.

inUsing bought (all butter) puff pastry, minced lamb, and some English apple, I forget the name, as well as the usual veg, and served with chips, and a choice of brown sauce or ketchup. Absolutely, extremely, gluttony-inducing delicious. At least, that’s what John and I thought. Sam only ate the pastry, probably; Hannah nibbled at the pastry, but it’s a start.
