John’s Work arranged a ‘day out’ at Alton Towers, with food laid on, and what have you. Very wet, but we managed to find some fun. Lots of kiddie-winkie rides. I got cold feet and got off the roller coaster, so John had to take Hannah instead. She didn’t look big enough, but she really enjoyed it, apparently. We did drag Sam through the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride, which he didn’t like it, but we did. I suppose you had to have read/seen it before.

Went to the zoo with Hannah for her playschool trip; was a bit tough, on account of my not getting a map and there not being enough signposts, and having to stop early to get back in time for the school run (which we still managed to be 15 minutes late), but we actually managed to see lots of animals: the cheetahs, the rhinoceras, the tiger, the funny pigs, the camels, the okapi, the flamingoes, the elephants, the lions, a snake, some kind of lizard, lots of monkeys, apes, etc., the giraffes, the dolphins (swimming underwater). Also, ducks and ducklings, but watch out: the ducks will take the sandwich out of your hand! We do actually quite like Chester Zoo, but it’s very large, and we still haven’t seen everything. Next time, we must see the zebra and the kangaroos. And the cheetahs again, and the tigers, and the otters….

And my calendar says that summer begins here, which I don’t think you can pin the seasons down in that way, but it did start iffy and then become very nice, so maybe it worked this year.

This year Hannah made a card at playschool, and a pot for his pens, and Sam made a card at school, and then we made him his breakfast (orange juice, real coffee, and chocolate brioche)

I have been doing lots of crochet. I made a cushion, which is on our sofa, and a long scarf, which I think I shall keep for myself, and I made
a little bag and IT Watson a yellow hat with tassels. I think I like crochet better than knitting, so far; it is less cumbersome too hold a hook than the needles, and takes up less space in bed (which I have tried), or with someone on your knee (which I haven’t tried) . So now I have indulged in some nice posh cotton yarn to make a different design of cushion, which John might like to take to work.

And very useful to remember: if there is a picture on your computer, it’s yours. Just hit ‘Prt Scr’, (Print Screen), open a suitable programme (e.g. Paint) and press ‘paint’. What you have is a screenshot, which you can then edit to your heart’s content.

June is the month of the Sacred Heart: a celebration of God’s love for us.
Music: O, Sacred Heart, Sweet Heart of Jesus, To Jesus Heart, all burning, Oh the Love of My Lord is the Essence, My God Loves Me, ; God so Loved the World (from the Stainer crucifixion)
Quite separately, I also think of it as a good time to buy roses. I think it maybe used to be the most seasonal month or something.
Other things in season: asparagus, maybe; broad beans, should you like them (I find it hard to believe that anybody does); lettuce, e.g. little gem, or the floppy types; crab, apparently; sardines, fresh, grilled; strawberries; cherries (foreign, probably); gooseberries.
