inI finally got round to doing a little hooking. Hannah needed a thing to hang off her cornet case, so she would know it was hers, and she likes cats, so I made this:
I got the instructions from this blog:

I’m not terribly good at sewing, and I just used the yarn and buttons I had, but Hannah likes it.

Forgot to mention before. I made a lovely crochet cushion cover for John in black, with black shiny buttons, and found a cushion in Ikea in pale blue, which fitted perfectly, and the blue through the black just matches perfectly, so now Sam says it is his cushion. Now I am making myself a bag, which the very helpful ghoti helped me buy new yarn for in John Lewis. I bought the proper fancy yarn to treat myself, but my excuse was that it was a non-standard thickness, and I am not yet confident enough to swap yarns if they might be differently thick. I have skipped the pattern in the book for a garland of teddy bear heads and pompoms, because it had too much sewing and stuffing, and because ghoti ‘s baby doesn’t want decapitated teddy bears anyway.

I have been doing lots of crochet. I made a cushion, which is on our sofa, and a long scarf, which I think I shall keep for myself, and I made
a little bag and IT Watson a yellow hat with tassels. I think I like crochet better than knitting, so far; it is less cumbersome too hold a hook than the needles, and takes up less space in bed (which I have tried), or with someone on your knee (which I haven’t tried) . So now I have indulged in some nice posh cotton yarn to make a different design of cushion, which John might like to take to work.

Finally completed first crochet project: a little flower, worked with slip stich, which I think might be American for single crochet, and loops of chain; worked in Aran with thick hook, which made it easier. Next project is a baby hat, to be worked in double crochet. I happen to have bright orange double knit, but am having trouble making a chain of 64 chains, without twisting, and at the right tension. Which, I still haven’t worked out what that is. At this rate
‘s baby will have babies of her own before it’s finished!
